kiss thin lips good-bye. ![]() Over the years your tissue loses its elasticity; this includes the area around your lips. They retract, giving a tired, sagging appearance. Injectable fillers are injected into the skin or lip area to remove wrinkles, lines and folds, improve facial contours, or create fuller lips. ![]() Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are natural polysaccharides that are found in the skin and connective tissue of the human body and other living organisms. The HA is produced biosynthetically, so it is very biocompatible. The effect of treatment depends on many factors, such as age, skin type, life style and muscle activity. As the gel gradually breaks down water takes its place. When the gel is totally absorbed it disappears from the body undetected. ![]() Most customers have a follow-up treatment six to nine months after the initial treatment for wrinkles and facial contouring. Treatments take about 30 minutes, with instant, visible results. Gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very tiny needle. The gel gives a natural volume and smoothes the wrinkles. ![]() Possible Side Effects: 1. After a treatment you may experience slight irritation, swelling, redness, discolouration, tenderness and pain. Depending on what treatment has taken place, it takes about a day to a week for any slight irritation to clear. 2. In very rare cases (1 in 2000) patients have experienced localised reactions, thought to be allergic in nature; in this case the average duration lasts about two weeks. 3. Patients who suffer from cold sores should note that injections around the mouth and lip area might cause them to recur. 4. The injection of fillers can be associated with a small risk of infection. Special formulated after-care lotion is used to reduce this risk to a minimum. How long will treatments last? Restylane and Hydra-Fill last 6 - 9 months and are not permanent. You always have a choice to continue or change the combination of treatments – and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like. Most patients choose to have a follow-up treatment 6 or 12 months after an initial treatment of wrinkles. When the lips have been treated a follow-up treatment is normally needed after about 6 months. ![]() To book an appointment, or to find out more about these treatments, telephone us on 0208 9055509, or email dr.benson@btconnect.com.
